    Hole of Affinity

    by Nathan Hoks

When I take my lover in my teeth

It is to hear her talking.

And when I thrash the moonlight

It is because she is lying sideways

While I want to lie at an angle.

Invisible blood seeps out of my ear.

I’m going to leak orange light

Out of the mouth. I’ll be the sun,

    A blaring erasure haunting

    The soundless field at dusk.

I’m going to dive into the anthill

Where my god has gone to hide.

    I want to know why

We are made of so many holes.
